On May 12, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will present the first concert in its new Uncharted series. Edwin Outwater will conduct the concert at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, featuring the string trio Time for Three, the ISO’s artists in residence, performing with songwriter/performer Citizen Cope (Clarence Greenwood). Cope’s compositions have been recorded by artists including Carlos Santana, Dido, Pharoahe Monch, and Richie Havens, and he currently records and produces for his own record label, Rainwater Recordings. Time for Three will perform selections from their original repertoire, and the evening will open with the ISO performing new works by composers Andrew Norman and Nicole Lizée. The orchestra states in a press release that the Uncharted series aims “to explore new ways to connect with wider audience groups and create connections with musical artists from outside of the traditional orchestral scope” who might not otherwise perform for an orchestra audience.
