The New York Youth Symphony has announced the 2018-19 season for its orchestra, jazz, chamber music, and composition divisions. In addition, the organization will launch a music theater composition program in the 2018-19 season, with further details to be announced this summer. The season will include three orchestra performances at Carnegie Hall, led by Music Director Michael Repper—including premieres by Theo Chandler, Natalie Dietterich, and Ryan Lindveit—and two free community concerts at Ansche Chesed synagogue in Manhattan. Orchestra and chamber musicians will tour Spain in June and July 2019. There will be three jazz performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center, led by jazz program director Andy Clausen, to include world premieres by Zachary Rich, Sam Wolsk, and Dave Meder. Chamber musicians will perform concerts at Manhattan’s National Arts Club, Scandinavia House, and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, led by program director Dr. Lisa Tipton. Kyle Blaha, director of the composition program, will lead an evening of new music at Symphony Space in Manhattan, featuring original compositions by young composers and featuring musicians from all ensembles as well as the NYYS apprentice conducting program.
