KELLEN GRAY will become the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s assistant conductor, effective with the 2018-19 season. Previously, Gray served as assistant conductor and Project Inclusion Freeman Conducting Fellow at the Chicago Sinfonietta, and as associate conductor of the Columbus Ballet in Georgia. Gray frequently cover conducts for the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s subscription series and pops programs. In his new role at the orchestra, Gray will conduct the Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra and provide artistic and logistical support to Music Director Ken Lam and Principal Pops conductor Yuriy Bekker. Gray, a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, holds an undergraduate degree in violin performance and an artist’s diploma in orchestral conducting from the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University and a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from Valdosta State University.
