The New York Philharmonic’s fourth Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership will take place this summer in the U.S. and China. The five students are Renchao Yu, violin; Kuan Liu, viola; Fangyu Huang, flute; Yanru Chiu, clarinet; and Sihong Zhao, bassoon. They will take lessons with Philharmonic musicians and train and play alongside the Philharmonic, led by James Gaffigan, at the Concerts in the Parks. Then the New York Philharmonic will travel to Shanghai for its fourth residency at the Shanghai Orchestra Academy, July 1–7, where Philharmonic musicians lead master classes and give lessons, coachings, and a side-by-side rehearsal with SOA students, led by Assistant Conductor Joshua Gersen. The New York Philharmonic will also perform four concerts in Shanghai, conducted by Music Director Designate Jaap van Zweden and Bramwell Tovey.
