Musicians of Canada’s Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra will perform twenty free pop-up concerts in parks and other public places throughout Winnipeg on June 16 and 17. The short “Symphony in the City” concerts feature WSO chamber ensembles performing in locations including Transcona Centennial Square, the Forks Market, Assiniboine Park, and Manitoba Children’s Museum. Each ensemble has programmed a program of classical selections tailored to their instruments, with strings, for instance, performing music by French composers. Symphony in the City also includes three full-orchestra concerts from June 19 to 27, including a free performance at the Centennial Concert Hall with vocal soloists, the Community String Ensemble, and L’Ensemble folklorique de la Rivière Rougeas, and a concert with the World Village Gospel Choir at the historic Knox United Church.
