“Joana Carneiro is stepping down after nine seasons as music director of the Berkeley Symphony,” writes Joshua Kosman in Thursday’s (5/24) San Francisco Chronicle. “The Portuguese conductor succeeded Kent Nagano in the post in 2009. No explanation was given for the decision…. Carneiro will serve as music director emerita, and the four concerts of the 2018-19 season will be led by guest conductors Ming Luke, Jonathon Heyward, Christopher Rountree and Christian Reif. Program details of the season will be announced at a later date.”
