The Copland House has named six Fellows selected to participate in Cultivate 2018, its annual program for emerging composers held in Cortlandt Manor, New York at Aaron Copland’s National Historic Landmark home, and at the Merestead estate in nearby Mount Kisco. The six are Carlos Bandera, 25 (Baltimore, MD); Ethan Braun, 30 (Tarzana, CA); Theo Chandler, 25 (Hillsborough, NC); Annika Socolofsky, 27 (Princeton, NJ); Phil Taylor, 28 (Boulder, CO); and Liliya Ugay, 27 (New Haven, CT). Chosen by Cultivate Director Derek Bermel, Russell Platt, and Huang Ruo, the six composers will each create a new work that will serve as the focus of an intensive week from June 4 to 10 of daily rehearsals and workshops with Bermel and artists from the Music from Copland House ensemble. The week will conclude with a public concert by the ensemble on June 10 at Merestead, featuring world premieres of the new works. All costs of composer participation, working sessions and rehearsals, travel, accommodations, and meals are covered by Copland House.
