“Legendary composer John Williams will be a special guest of the Orioles on June 11, when they face the Boston Red Sox at Camden Yards,” writes Chris Pizzello in Sunday’s (6/3) Associated Press. “A lifelong baseball fan, Williams will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game, as his five-decade career in the performing arts is recognized. Members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s brass and percussion sections, led by Music Director Marin Alsop, will perform a pregame concert of Williams’ works. The Orioles also will incorporate Williams’ music throughout the game. Williams, 86, has served as music director for many of Hollywood’s biggest movies, including the ‘Star Wars’ films, ‘E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial,’ the Indiana Jones series, ‘Jaws’ and ‘Schindler’s List.’ His accomplishments are vast. During 1980-1993, he was principal conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra…. Williams has received five Academy Awards and 51 Oscar nominations. He has also won 24 Grammy Awards and three Emmy Awards. Williams will team with Alsop to lead the BSO on June 13 for An Evening with John Williams.”
