On June 16, three days before the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra leaves for a ten-day tour of Europe, the orchestra will perform a “Bon Voyage” concert at the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University, led by Richard Loheyde. At the sendoff concert, musicians will perform tour repertoire, plus Villa-Lobos’s Ciranda das sete notas featuring bassoonist Chloe Watson, winner of the orchestra’s concerto competition this year. During the orchestra’s June 19-28 tour, musicians will visit and perform in Salzburg, Vienna, and Budapest. Tour performances will feature the world premiere of Gloria Coates’s Stardust and Dark Matter, as well as Bernstein’s Overture to Candide, Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suites, Strauss’s “Thunder and Lightning” Polka, and Jason Eckl’s Heritage Klezmer Concerto with cellist Rebecca Roudman and her ensemble Dirty Cello.
