“On Thursday, the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra embarked on its first European tour, with concerts booked in Vienna, Prague and Budapest,” writes Jeremy Reynolds in Sunday’s (6/17) Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “For 10 days, 83 young musicians will play music by Dvořák, Bartok, Enescu, Bernstein and more…. ‘We had our send-off concert on Sunday, and this orchestra is ready to go on tour,’ said John Wilcox, TRYPO’s music director…. Three Rivers … serves more than 200 students each year and includes the ensemble going on tour, a string orchestra geared toward middle school students, a chamber music program and summer programs…. TRYPO … awarded roughly $40,000 in scholarships [for the tour]…. ‘We didn’t want anyone to not be able to go because of money,’ said executive director Lindsey Nova…. Liam Botos, 19, has been in the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra for nine years and will start college this fall…. He will perform as concertmaster during the tour. ‘After all the years I’ve been in TRYPO, I’m super glad this is happening,’ said the O’Hara resident.”
