Florida’s Artis—Naples arts center has appointed EMERSON MILLAR to one of the two concertmaster positions in the Naples Philharmonic. Millar will serve as co-concertmaster with Glenn Basham, Naples Philharmonic concertmaster since 1994. She will join the orchestra at the beginning of the 2018-19 season in September. Millar will occupy the Connie and Bob Eaton Chair, recently endowed by the Eatons with a $1 million gift to the Future—Forward Campaign for Cultural Excellence. Originally from upstate New York, the 23-year-old Millar has appeared as concertmaster of the New World Symphony, where she was a fellow for the 2017-18 season, and the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. While studying at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, Millar served as concertmaster of the Debut Chamber Orchestra and associate concertmaster of the American Youth Symphony. A recipient of the New Horizons Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival, she performed as the assistant concertmaster of the Aspen Festival Orchestra in 2015. Millar was a fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami for the 2017-18 season. Millar received a bachelor of music from the Colburn Conservatory of Music.
