“Kate Sheeran, provost and dean of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music since 2015, is to become executive director of Manhattan’s Kaufman Music Center in August,” writes Susan Elliott in Friday’s (6/22) MusicalAmerica.com (subscription required). “She succeeds Lydia Kontos, who announced her intent to retire last fall. Kontos has been with the Center in various capacities since 1979 and is credited with its programmatic and financial growth. Prior to San Francisco, Sheeran served as assistant dean at Mannes School of Music at The New School; she holds a BM in horn and an MM from Yale University…. Kaufman Music Center is comprised of Merkin Concert Hall; the Lucy Moses School, offering instruction in music, dance, and theater for all ages and levels; the Special Music School, a public school for ‘musically gifted’ K-12 students; and Face the Music, a young artists ensemble specializing in music of living composers.”
