Music in the Mountains, the July 8-29 classical music festival in Durango, Colorado, is reporting that the festival will go on as planned, after firefighters were able to protect the Purgatory Resort, where the festival is held, from damage. Purgatory Resort—which in addition to the festival includes alpine slides, mountain biking, nature hikes, a ropes course, and other outdoor activities—had closed after the so-called 416 Wildfire broke out in early June. The fire destroyed more than 25,000 acres. The resort reopened on July 2. Music in the Mountains includes chamber concerts, full-orchestra concerts, and pops concerts. Gregory Hustis is the festival’s artistic director, and Guillermo Figueroa is music director.
