The Boston Landmarks Orchestra’s summer season of free Wednesday concerts at the Hatch Memorial Shell will begin on July 18 with the Holst’s The Planets plus the world premiere of Gonzalo Grau’s Pegasus Promenade performed by Boston’s Zumix ensemble of young musicians. Programs through August will include Verdi’s Requiem with vocal soloists plus the One City Choir and the Back Bay Chorale; a dance-themed program of music by Tchaikovsky, Amy Beach, and Leonard Bernstein, accompanied by dancers from Boston Ballet II, Peter DiMuro’s Public Displays of Motion, and community performers including Camp Harbor View, Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, and Conservatory Lab Charter School; and a sea-themed concert of Maurice Ravel’s Une Barque sur l’océan, excerpts from Bernard Herrmann’s Moby Dick, Claude Debussy’s La Mer, and the world premiere of Stella Sung’s Oceana co-presented with the New England Aquarium. On July 11, the orchestra hosted a “Season Tune-Up” event aimed at families, with a “Maestro Zone” for practicing conducting skills to recordings of classics, face-painting, and exhibits from the Boston Children’s Museum and New England Aquarium.
