In Vermont, Marlboro Music’s three-week summer festival will open on the weekend of July 14-15 with music for piano, strings, woodwinds, and voice performed by the program’s resident artists. Repertoire will include works by Mozart, Copland, Schumann, Beethoven, Schubert, and Nielsen. Pianist Mitsuko Uchida is artistic director of Marlboro, now in its 68th season. The festival features works that have been rehearsed in-depth prior to performance; the rarely programmed Copland Quartet for Piano and Strings, for example, will have received 24 hours of rehearsal. Performers on opening weekend include bassoonist Keith Buncke; clarinetist Bixby Kennedy; horn player Trevor Nuckøls; double-bassist William Langlie-Miletich; pianists Jonathan Biss, Lydia Brown, Andrew Hsu, Evren Ozel, János Palojtay, and Cynthia Raim; violinists Eunice Kim and Soovin Kim; cellists Brannon Cho, Alessio Pianelli, Judith Serkin, Peter Stumpf, and Peter Wiley.
