The Michigan Philharmonic will open its 2018-19 season in October with a concert celebrating Music Director Nan Washburn’s twentieth season leading the Plymouth-based orchestra. The “Happy 20th NANiversary” concert at Our Lady of Good Counsel on October 5 will feature what the orchestras says is some of Washburn’s favorite music: Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture; Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber; Wael Binali’s Earth: Plunder, Wound, Renewal, Hope, written for the UN Climate Change Conference in 2012; and Barber’s Violin Concerto, Op. 14, with soloist Danielle Belen. The season, the orchestra’s 73rd, will conclude in April with a concert featuring the orchestra performing side by side with the Michigan Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and with guest performers including the Plymouth Community Band, saxophonist Zach Sheman, and Detroit-based composer and bassist Rick Robinson.
