“Founded in 1918, the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra has planned a variety of special music and other opportunities for the community to celebrate its centennial,” reads an unsigned article in Tuesday’s (8/21) Sheboygan Press (Wis.). “The 100th season will begin with a gala concert on Oct. 6 [featuring] violinist Frank Almond … in … the Brahms Violin Concerto. The season will close on May 11, 2019, with … the world premiere of ‘Music at Night’ … by Michael Torke commissioned by the SSO for its 100th season. The work will feature the SSO and the Sheboygan Symphony Chorus… The season will close with … Mahler’s landmark Second Symphony…. The SSO has a number of other plans to celebrate its centennial: SSO clarinetist … Joseph Milicia has written a book chronicling the SSO’s history…. The organization unveiled a special 100th anniversary logo…. The SSO has partnered with the City of Sheboygan, Sheboygan Squared and Lakeshore Technical College to create some colorful music notes celebrating the 100th that began to appear throughout downtown Sheboygan early this summer. Beginning in late June, the SSO launched ‘100 Reasons to Celebrate the SSO,’ a 100-day countdown on its Facebook page to the October season opener.”
