New York City’s Greenwich Village Orchestra will open its 2018-19 season on October 14 with Music Director Barbara Yahr leading Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 (“Great”) and Barber’s School for Scandal Overture and Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with soprano Rebecca Farley. Soloists scheduled to perform with the orchestra during the season include violinist Ming Feng Hsin, a member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, in Glazunov’s Violin Concerto, in February; and New York Philharmonic bass trombonist George Curran, who will perform as soloist in Chris Brubeck’s Prague Concerto in April. Other repertoire in 2018-19 will include Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 3, Richard Strauss’s Rosenkavalier Suite, and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra. The orchestra also will present a family program in December and a chamber music concert in March featuring the Lysander Piano Trio in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto. The season will conclude in May with Copland’s Quiet City, featuring Principal Trumpet Phil Parsons and English hornist Jason Smoller, and Holst’s The Planets.
