The Musicians Foundation, formed in 1914 to help professional musicians and their families cover bills and essential expenses in times of need, has added an online application for those seeking support. To be considered for an aid grant, candidates must have worked at least five years as a professional musician and must provide tax statements demonstrating that their principal income is from their work as a musician. The foundation provides one-time assistance and also covers long-term costs such as nursing home and hospice care. When assistance is given, direct payments go to medical providers, housing authorities, and insurance companies. Over the years, the Musicians Foundation has been supported by musicians and philanthropists including Jascha Heifetz, Charles Steinway, and Isaac Stern.
