“As a teenager Gary Capozziello, 38, played some blues guitar, but the violin was always his primary performance instrument,” writes Nancy Schoeffler in Sunday’s (9/23) Hartford Courant (CT). “A member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra since 2016, he also is a founding member of the Atlas Piano Trio … and he co-founded the Hartford Classical Music Academy.… Capozziello lives in Manchester with his wife, pianist Zitao Lu … and he serves as artistic director of the International American Classical Music Festival, which she started; it brings faculty from the Hartt School to tour and teach in China. Q: What has been the most challenging aspect of being a full-time artist? Capozziello: Honestly, it is physically exhausting! … You have to … manage your time effectively, and take … care of both your physical health and the health of your playing. Q: What is your major hope for how your art will affect other people? Capozziello: If the audience gets transported or feels that ‘awe’ that classical music gives you, then I feel fulfilled and leave wanting to do it all over again the next day. It’s about giving them a glimpse of something elevated and special.”
