The Utah Symphony | Utah Opera has released a “Back to School” report on the impact of its free music education programs in 2017-18. The report found that the organization’s combined orchestra and opera programs together reached more than 157,000 students in 2017-18, representing 40 percent of Utah public schools. The report covers education programs by the opera and the orchestra. The orchestra served 77,021 students at 457 schools, representing 40 percent of the public schools in the state. During the same period, the opera’s education department reached 81,346 students in 393 schools, 35 percent of Utah public schools. The USUO operates more than 30 community engagement programs, amounting to more than 600 performances annually. USUO Education serves more than 7,000 teachers and 155,000 students each year throughout Utah by bringing symphony and opera programs, free of charge, to every school district in Utah over a three- to five-year rotation.
