The National Alliance for Audition Support (NAAS), a national initiative to increase diversity in American orchestras, has announced three upcoming opportunities for Black and Latinx musicians: two NAAS Audition Intensives in December, and the Sphinx Orchestral Partners Auditions in January. Hosted by the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida, the NAAS Audition Intensives will include an audition seminar for low strings from December 9 to 12, 2018, and a woodwind and brass audition seminar from December 17 to 20, 2018. At the Sphinx Orchestral Partners Auditions, on January 30, 2019 in Detroit, Michigan, musicians of color will play an audition for a panel representing several orchestras seeking to identify musicians for invitation to auditions, pre-advancement at auditions and/or placement on substitute player lists. NAAS is made up of the Sphinx Organization, the New World Symphony, and the League of American Orchestras. NAAS is supported by a four-year grant of $1.8M from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as well as contributions from orchestras across the U.S. To apply and learn more, visit: www.auditionalliance.org.
