On October 19 and 24, the Northwest Symphony Orchestra in Washington State will perform concerts marking the 25th anniversary of Washington’s National Park Fund. Music Director Anthony Spain will conduct both concerts, the first being a family program at Federal Way Performing Arts and Events Center in Federal Way, about 25 miles south of Seattle, the second at Seattle’s Benaroya Hall. Repertoire will include Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 (“New World”) with visuals by Adrian Wyard featuring imagery from the state’s national parks; “The Entry of the Gods into Valhalla” from Wagner’s Ring cycle, featuring photos by 100 area photographers; and the world premiere of Forestia by local composer Brent Irwin, a native of Everett, Washington. At the Federal Way concert, there will be an instrument petting zoo, and students from the Highline and Federal Way school district will perform in “America the Beautiful.” Washington’s National Park Fund is the fundraising arm of Mount Rainier, North Cascades, and Olympic National Parks.
