New York’s Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed JAMAN EDWARD DUNN to the new position of assistant conductor, community engagement. The one-year assistant conductor position was funded by the New York State Council on the Arts Regional Development Council. Dunn will lead the May 2019 side-by-side concert with the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts, which includes not only the music students performing onstage but dance, theatrical, and visual elements contributed by students in those disciplines. He will also take part in the Buffalo Philharmonic’s Music for Youth concert series, BPO Kids concerts, school outreach, cover conducting duties, and will participate in the orchestra’s Diversity Council. A Chicago native, Dunn began playing the violin at age eight. He attended Ohio State University for vocal performance, where he founded the Buckeye Philharmonic, a student-run orchestra. He is a recent graduate of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee with a master of music degree in conducting.
