From October 25 to 28, all three Dayton Performing Arts Alliance resident companies—the Dayton Ballet, Dayton Philharmonic, and Dayton Opera—will jointly present four performances of a new ballet, Dracula: Bloodlines. Dayton Ballet Artistic Director Karen Russo Burke is choreographer for the work, about the history of Dracula. The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra will play an original score by Austin K. Jaquith, a professor at Ohio’s Cedarville University, and Dayton Opera soprano Olivia Yokers, mezzo-soprano Courtney Elvira, and bass-baritone Tyler Alessi will also perform. As with previous projects, DPAA is partnering with the University of Dayton’s Arts Immersion initiative. This academic year, all first-year students enrolled in a Humanities Commons course will attend a performance of Dracula: Bloodlines as their Arts Immersion Experience for 2018–19. University faculty teaching Humanities Commons courses will incorporate aspects of the performance through the lens of their disciplines and into their courses. The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance was formed in July 2012 as the result of a merger between the Dayton Ballet, the Dayton Opera, and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.
