On October 26, California’s Pacific Symphony will perform the first of three concerts in a new series of short, informal Friday night events entitled “Classical KUSC @ Pacific Symphony.” Music Director Carl St.Clair will conduct, and KUSC’s Alan Chapman will serve as program host for an all-Bernstein program to include Prelude, Fugue, and Riffs for Solo Clarinet and Jazz Ensemble (with clarinetist Joseph Morris), Chichester Psalms for Chorus and Orchestra (with the Pacific Chorale), and selections from Candide, with soprano Celena Shafer. The series targets 25- to 45-year-olds new to classical music, and each performance includes a preconcert talk by the KUSC host and a post-concert “meet and mingle” with Pacific Symphony musicians. Upcoming programs in February and March will feature music by Bernstein, Shostakovich, and Rimsky-Korsakov (hosted by KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen) and Beethoven, Bruch, and Mendelssohn (with KUSC host John Van Driel).
