The Canton Youth Symphony will partner with Ballet Le Rêve to perform Alice in Wonderland, a fully staged ballet, on October 28 at the Palace Theatre in downtown Canton, Ohio. Matthew Jenkins Jaroszewicz, music director of the Canton Youth Symphonies, created the ballet’s score using standard repertoire and music by Zach Gulaboff Davis, a doctoral student in composition at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, augmented by small sections of recorded contemporary music. The choreographer is Nurzhan Kulybaev, Ballet Le Rêve’s artistic director. The performance will feature the Canton Youth Symphony Advanced Orchestra and dancers from Le Rêve, a youth ballet company based in Canal Fulton, Ohio. The Canton Youth Symphony Advanced Orchestra of students in grades 9 to 12 is one of the Canton Symphony Orchestra’s three ensembles for young people; the others are Canton Youth Strings for beginning violin, viola, cello and bass students in grades 2 to 6, and Canton Youth Symphony, a full orchestra of intermediate-level students in grades 6 to 9.
