“This Halloween in Jamaica Plain wasn’t just costumed kids going from house-to-house asking for candy,” writes David Ertischek in Tuesday’s (11/6) Jamaica Plain News (Boston). “This year, professional musicians and dancers made their way across JP creating flashmobs in an homage to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller.’ Jamaica Plain’s Hoopla Productions collaborated with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops to produce several flashmobs for Halloween outside of Symphony Hall and in various locations in Jamaica Plain, said Hoopla’s Mindy Fried… Hoopla Productions also organizes the popular Jamaica Plain Porchfest [concerts]…. Ali Pierre-Etienne choreographed the dancing, which was accompanied by the professional musicians, who also got into the zombie performance with makeup and some dance moves. The first performance was October 29, outside of Symphony Hall, and there were several flashmobs in various locations around Jamaica Plain on Halloween, including at Mooyah Burger in Hyde Square and JP Licks [ice cream] on Centre Street.… ‘It was quite a night on Dunster (Road)—even more crazy than usual with the addition of the BSO and Ali Pierre-Etienne and her dancers,’ said Marie Ghitman of Hoopla Productions.” The article includes video.
