Oregon’s Eugene Symphony is hosting a November 12-15 residency by the ensemble Eighth Blackbird, which will culminate with a performance of Jennifer Higdon’s On a Wire featuring both groups on November 15. Among residency activities are a performance/talk at Sheldon Oaks Retirement Home featuring Lisa Kaplan from Eighth Blackbird; youth concerts at the Hult Center; a discussion session for composers; rehearsals of the Eugene Symphony and Eighth Blackbird with clients of partner human service agencies Willamette Family (residential and outpatient alcohol and drug addiction treatment) and HIV Alliance (low-income persons living with HIV/AIDS) among invited attendees; a public chamber music master class at University of Oregon School of Music; a pre-concert talk/demonstration for Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras students and families; and a performance for students at Elmira High School. Music Director Francesco Lecce-Chong will conduct the November 15 program, which in addition to Higdon’s On a Wire will feature Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3, Mozart’s Six German Dances (K.571), and Bernstein’s Fancy Free.
