“Kirsten Ahnell’s passion for classical music has led her and two other musicians to develop a free concert series, the first of which will take place Nov. 15,” writes Bobbie Hayse in Monday’s (11/12) Messenger-Inquirer (Owensboro, KY). “The 45-minute concert … will [feature] Garnet Ungar, a pianist who teaches piano at the University of Evansville; Conor Bell … in his third season performing as the principal bassoonist for the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra; and Ahnell, who is the principal clarinetist with the Owensboro Symphony…. The trio will perform works by Mendelssohn, Debussy and Saint-Saëns.… Ahnell got the idea for the concert after visiting Cleveland, and she has since learned of several cities who provide such a free lunchtime concert to the community. ‘People can come and bring their lunch and chill out awhile,’ she said. ‘Eat and have a little relaxing time, learn about the music, and then go back to work.’ She plans to have a free concert … every month, though the other dates have yet to be determined. Her hopes are that … food trucks and other food vendors will show up to the performance spaces to offer patrons a variety of meals for their lunch concert.”
