On November 27, one month after the October 27 mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will perform a free concert at Heinz Hall to honor and remember the victims. The 7:30pm concert, also featuring Israeli-American violinist Itzhak Perlman and the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, aims to provide an opportunity for the Pittsburgh community to find comfort and strength through music, hope, and unity, says the orchestra. All artists will donate their services for the performance, and volunteers will collect contributions for the Jewish Federation’s Our Victims of Terror fund and the Injured Officers Fund. PSO President and CEO Melia Tourangeau invited the community “to join us as we work to honor the victims, bridge differences and celebrate the human experience during this difficult time.” Music Director Manfred Honeck said, “We resolve to go forward doing what we know best, performing music with the hope that we can bring people together as we collectively grieve and heal.” The concert is part of the PSO’s ongoing “Music for the Spirit” performances with spiritual roots to celebrate Pittsburgh faith communities.
