RYAN LEWIS will join the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as vice president for sales and marketing, effective Feb. 4, 2019. He will be responsible for marketing, communications and design, digital content and web technologies, as well as ticketing and patron services. He succeeds PHILIP KOESTER, who was named vice president of marketing and communications at the Los Angeles Philharmonic last summer. Lewis goes to the Chicago Symphony with more than sixteen years of marketing and sales experience in the performing arts, serving most recently as vice president of marketing at Opera Philadelphia. During his six years at Opera Philadelphia, he conducted market research studies, data analytics projects, and garnered recognition for the organization’s innovative marketing programs. He was also part of the team that rebranded Opera Philadelphia and launched the opera festival, “O,” in 2017. Lewis previously occupied marketing leadership positions at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, National Symphony Orchestra, and Washington National Opera. He received a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from the University of Maryland, College Park.
