The documentary “Symphony for Nature: The Britt Orchestra at Crater Lake” is airing on PBS stations from New Year’s Day through January 4. The film chronicles the world premiere of Michael Gordon’s Natural History, with the Britt Orchestra led by Music Director Teddy Abrams in summer 2016 at Oregon’s Crater Lake, a site sacred to the local Klamath Tribes. The lake inspired Gordon’s score, commissioned by the Britt Music and Arts Festival to mark the centennial of the National Park Service. Natural History features the 40-member orchestra, a 70-voice choir, and 30 brass players and percussionists, as well as a Klamath family drum group known as the Steiger Butte Singers, with members of the Klamath Tribal Council in attendance. “Symphony for Nature” was previously screened at film festivals across the country, and has aired previously on PBS stations.
