ROGER KALIA has been promoted from assistant conductor to associate conductor at the Pacific Symphony in Orange County, California. His contract has been extended through August 31, 2020. He joined the orchestra four years ago. In addition to assisting Music Director Carl St.Clair with conducting, Kalia handles the orchestra’s education initiatives, where his duties include programming and conducting the Family Musical Mornings series. He is music director of Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO), a training orchestra for instrumentalists in grades 9-12. He conducts the annual Class Act Youth Concerts, which conclude a year of music lessons and performances in Orange County schools given by Pacific Symphony musicians. A recipient of the 2013, 2017, and 2018 Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Award, Kalia was recently named music director of Orchestra Santa Monica. He is also co-founder and music director of the Lake George Music Festival in upstate New York. Prior to joining Pacific Symphony, Kalia held conducting positions with the Charlotte Symphony, the Young Musicians Foundation (YMF) Debut Orchestra, and the Columbus (IN) Symphony Orchestra.
