La Jolla Music Society to open performing arts center, the Conrad, in April

California’s “La Jolla Music Society today announced the opening weekend concerts for its new home, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center (The Conrad),” writes Taylor Grant in Thursday’s (2/7) (subscription required). “On April 5, 6, and 7, 019, the $82 million, 49,000-square-foot complex … will host three concerts: Opening night features violinist Hillary Hahn and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet; ukulele artist Jake Shimabukuro; jookin specialist Lil Buck; the Miró Quartet; and creative technologist Osman Koç. Past and current SummerFest music directors, from Wu Han and David Finckel to Cho-Lian Lin, will also be feted. The Conrad includes … The Baker-Baum Concert Hall, with 513 seats, and The JAI, a 2,000-square-foot- multi-purpose space…. Designed by Epstein Joslin, whose other work includes Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood and the Strathmore Music Center in Baltimore, the two spaces cluster around a garden courtyard that invites patrons attending different events to mingle.
