The Orchestra of St. Luke’s has announced the four participants in the inaugural DeGaetano Composition Institute, set to take place in July 2019 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City. The four—Viet Cuong, James Diaz, José Martínez, and Liza Sobel—were selected by Composer Mentor Anna Clyne and conductor Ben Gernon. From January to April, each participant will receive personal, one-on-one mentorship from Clyne as they develop their original chamber-orchestra work through individualized remote-learning sessions. The four composers will travel to New York City for a one-week residency from July 14 to 19, with a housing and travel stipend provided by the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. The composers will participate in artistic workshops with OSL musicians; professional development sessions with OSL staff; networking and professional development from industry leaders; coaching in public speaking; and guidance for funding sources and public relations.
