“Zuri Robinson has been hospitalized repeatedly,” writes Dawn DeCwikiel-Kane in Sunday’s (3/3) News & Record (Greensboro, NC). “ ‘Every time that door [to her hospital room] opens, she thinks someone’s coming to give her a shot or to do the IV or do the catheter,’ said her mother, Dominique Cunningham. This time, Greensboro Symphony Orchestra violinist Ruth Metheny stands at Zuri’s door [at] the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital…. Zuri immediately quiets down as Metheny plays ‘Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?’ Metheny follows with Brahms’ ‘Lullaby,’ … and ‘You are My Sunshine.’ Zuri smiles and even dances, her arm still attached to the IV. Metheny’s visit comes courtesy of a partnership [MusiCare for Kids] between the Greensboro Symphony and Cone Health…. Shawn Houck … a registered nurse [who] serves on the Greensboro Symphony’s board of directors … heard about the Houston Symphony’s Community-Embedded Musician initiative. It places professional orchestral musicians in schools, neighborhoods and health-care settings…. Houck had played flute in the Florida West Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra. Now, with 30 years in health care, ‘I always wanted to blend these two passions so that they can make a difference for other people,’ she said.”
