New York classical music station WQXR is hosting a 24-hour marathon of all-women composers in celebration of International Women’s Day, March 8. The marathon will feature works written by 60 composers, including Louise Farrenc, Florence Price, Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Doreen Carwithen, and Isabella Leonarda. The marathon launches the station’s initiative to increase the number of works written by women played on-air over the next twelve months. The initiative was developed in response to the station’s discovery that just 4.4% of its vast music database consisted of works written by women composers. The marathon is available at WQXR 105.9 FM and via live stream at www.wqxr.org. Additional information on the project can be found here.
