The Los Angeles Philharmonic has announced seven participants for its annual National Composers Intensive for composers ages 18 to 30. They are Camila Agosto, Rohan Chander, Jessie Cox, Salina Fisher, Nicolas Morrish, Kelly Sheehan, and Nina Shekhar. Beginning in March, the seven are working with Composer Fellowship Program Director Andrew Norman and composer Ashley Fure to create and workshop a five- to six-minute work over the course of four to five months. For the first time, the NCI program is being held in collaboration with the International Contemporary Ensemble, and performances take place in both New York, where ICE is based, and Los Angeles. The composers first workshopped their pieces in New York from March 4 to 7, and beginning on May 27 they will meet in Los Angeles for rehearsals and a final performance during the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Noon to Midnight new music festival on June 1.
