For its March 22-23 concerts at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, the Austin Symphony Orchestra will perform music by Fanny Mendelssohn, Lili Boulanger, Clara Schumann, Vítězslava Kaprálová, and Jennifer Higdon, led by Music Director Peter Bay. The program will feature Mendelssohn’s Overture in C Major, thought to be her only orchestral piece; Kaprálová’s Suite rustica; Higdon’s Concerto 4-3, featuring the trio Time for Three; and Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 7, with local pianist Michelle Schumann. Before the performance and during intermission, representatives from Austin-based string shop Violins Etc. will be on hand with instruments, giving brief lessons on how to play.
