Elder, whose career as a performing arts administrator has included stints with such prestigious organizations as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Eastman School of Music, has been named the new executive director of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra,” writes James Watts in Thursday’s (3/14) Tulsa World (OK). “Elder, who will assume his new duties Aug. 5, succeeds Ron Predl, who announced in October his plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2018-2019 symphony season…. Elder comes to Tulsa from the Aspen Music Festival and School, … where he was General Manager and Vice President. Prior to his time in Aspen, he was Director of Concert Activities and Artistic and Executive Director of Presentations with the Eastman School of Music; Vice President of Operations at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra…. Elder has held various positions with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops and Tanglewood Music Center. He is a member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court, Commonweatlth of Massachusetts and State of New York. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music and arts administration from Indiana University (concentrations in tuba and technical theater) and earned his J.D. from New England Law.”
