In Friday’s (3/22) On Point broadcast on South Dakota Public Broadcasting, Lori Walsh interviews composer Ted Wiprud and Delta David Gier, music director of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra about the orchestra’s world-premiere performance Wiprud’s Wind of Many Voices, which evokes Wiprud’s experience of South Dakota. Wiprud is the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra’s composer-in-residence, made possible by Music Alive, a national three-year-composer-orchestra residency program of the League of American Orchestras and New Music USA. Led by Gier, the orchestra performed the work on Saturday, March 23 at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls. The program also featured Tchaikovsky’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D major with soloist David Kim and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 7. Listen to the 15-minute radio conversation here.
