“The music of Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin will be featured at the 2019 Intrepid Credit Union Symphony Under the Stars, Helena’s biggest outdoor summer concert each year,” reads an unsigned article in Tuesday’s (4/2) Helena Independent Record (Helena, Montana). “Aretha Franklin died this past August… She won 18 Grammy Awards, including the first eight awards given for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and is one of the best-selling music artists of all time…. The Helena Symphony will launch one of the first symphonic tributes to Aretha Franklin, including the Helena Symphony Orchestra complete with a rock band, backup singers, members of the Symphony Chorale, and two renowned artists: Grammy nominated R&B singer Ryan Shaw, and Broadway star Capathia Jenkins (from several Tony Award-winning productions, including ‘Newsies’). The concert will feature top hits of Aretha Franklin as well as other music from great R&B legends including Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. The free concert is scheduled for Saturday, July 20 at Carroll College.” The annual “Symphony Under the Stars” attracts 15,000 people from throughout Montana.
