The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra has announced winners of this year’s PYO Young Composers Competition. Daniel Zarb Cousin (in photo), an undergraduate at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, won the grand prize, which comes with $2,000 and a performance by the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra of his winning composition, Orchestral Prelude in E Major, on June 2, 2019 at Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. Second- and third-place winners, which come with $1,000 and $500 prizes, respectively, were Jesse Edwards and Evan Adams. Edwards is a composition student at Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas, and Adams studies composition at New York University. Judges for the competition were PYO Music Director Louis Scaglione and composer and PYO alumnus Sheridan Seyfried, who serves as the competition’s director.
