Michigan’s Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra is now accepting applications for its 2019 Young Artist Competition. The juried competition, which culminates in a solo performance by the top prize winner at an Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra youth concert, provides young instrumental and vocal musicians with the opportunity to perform a concerto movement with a professional orchestra. Contestants choose one movement from a concerto or a single-movement piece from the standard literature (maximum length: eight minutes, no cuts). Applications, along with a video of the applicant performing his or her accompanied concerto movement, must be submitted by May 10, 2019. Vocal or instrumental soloists enrolled in grades K through 12 during the 2019-20 academic year are invited to apply. Finalists will be invited to perform at a live juried audition on June 15, 2019; they will receive written feedback from the jurors. Top prize winners must be available to participate in the Ann Arbor Symphony’s Music in the Middle concert on November 13, 2019. For more information, visit www.a2so.com/youngartist.Apply here.
