JASON CHIN has been appointed general manager for the Hawaii Youth Symphony’s Pacific Music Institute this summer. The Pacific Music Institute is an intensive summer program designed for novice to advanced students ages 10 to 18 to hone their musical skills and engage with artist faculty. The Pacific Music Institute is open to students with at least two years of experience playing concert band, orchestral, or jazz instruments. Prior to joining Hawaii Youth Symphony, Chin was band director at Jarrett Middle School, from 2004 to 2007, and at Kawananakoa Middle School, from 2007 to 2018, where he also oversaw programs including the school’s 90th-anniversary celebration, Pacific Composition Project, and the Kawananakoa–Uwajima Minami Exchange Program. In addition to his work with Hawaii Youth Symphony, Chin currently works as the technology coordinator at Ma’ema’e Elementary School, provides consultation for various band programs on Oahu, and teaches saxophone privately.
