Aspen Music Festival and School has named JUSTIN BROWN as vice president and general manager. Brown goes to Aspen from the New York Philharmonic, where he was manager of concert operations; he was previously operations manager for the San Francisco Symphony and manager of music education and training for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, directing the CSO’s training orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. A bassoonist, Brown received his bachelor’s degree and graduate diploma from the Juilliard School, where he was the first-ever recipient of the Elton John Scholarship in Music. He began his career in arts administration while at Juilliard, and also helped found the conservatory’s contemporary music ensemble, AXIOM.
At AMFS, Brown will lead the institution’s year-round operational efforts, which include the summer festival with more than 400 events; winter events; facilities and house management; festival housing and residencies for more than 100 artist-faculty members; contracts; broadcast/recording media rights; rental agreements; and collaborations with other institutions. Brown will start at AMFS on June 20.
