“Vanessa Reed, chief executive of Britain’s Performing Rights Society (PRS) Foundation, is to be the new president and CEO of New Music USA, the organization formed out of the merger of the American Music Center and Meet the Composer in 2011,” writes Nicholas Beard in Monday’s (4/29) Musical America (subscription required). “On the surface, a Brit would seem an unusual choice for an organization that support and promotes new American music. However, PRS Foundation does much the same … [from] ‘composer residencies and commissions to a network of talent development partners and showcases in the UK and overseas.’ … Reed has been in the job 11 years. She is credited with vastly expanding the organization’s programs and resources and has been widely feted for her efforts. She has been a particular advocate for women composers…. She succeeds interim CEO Deborah Steinglass, who moved into the position when Ed Harsh left last year to join the Kurt Weill Foundation.” Reed will begin in her new position on August 12, 2019.
