AARON C. DOTY has been named vice president and general manager of Michigan’s Grand Rapids Symphony. Doty is fourteen-year veteran of Washington National Opera, based at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. At the opera company, he has held several positions, including operations director and co-interim executive director. He is currently Washington National Opera’s director of strategy and engagement; his duties include managing the administrative and music staff; negotiating contracts with artists and directors; negotiating collective bargaining agreements with the orchestra and chorus musicians; and strategic planning and community partnerships. A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Doty grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from Ohio University. A double bassist, Doty has performed with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. In Madison, he founded and served as music director of the High Point Chamber Orchestra. Doty joins the Grand Rapids Symphony in June.
