Virginia’s Alexandria Symphony has named GEORGE HANSON executive director. Hanson is currently director of two music festivals: the Tucson Desert Song Festival, a collaborative endeavor among performing arts groups in the Tucson area, and the Sunriver Music Festival in Bend, Oregon. Hanson’s career includes twenty years with the Tucson Symphony; work with the orchestras of Atlanta, Charlotte, Indianapolis, and Phoenix; and six seasons at the Wuppertal Opera and Orchestra in Germany, as well as other musical activities in the U.S. and internationally. An attendee of the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona Graduate School, he received his master of music degree from Indiana University. The Alexandria Symphony is currently in its 75th anniversary season and its first with Music Director James Ross.
